How It All Began

I KNEW
From the very start I was going to make Boss Cleaning a success, the thing with me is I have so much passion and drive to make things work, sometimes this can be a negative, you don’t know when to stop trying and to things go.
I raised my two daughters for many years by myself and I always wanted them to have the best possible up bringing. I was a strict Mumma, always trying to prove to the world that I could do the job of two people. I think this is how I am in business, always striving to be better, taking on challenges that people say I will never achieve, having that fire in your belly.
I say I’m a passionate person, that’s what I call it! Others may say I’m strong minded, have resting bitchface and am unfriendly. None of these are actually true, not even in the slightest. You must however have a resting bitch face in a man’s world, you need to go into any room like a lioness. I have often been told I walk into places like I own them... and they are absolutely right. This isn’t an arrogance thing, this is believing that I belong in any room and at any table!
When starting Boss Cleaning I wanted to be able to work around my children and finding a job in school times is such a challenge as I’m sure a lot of you know!
I wrote down everything I wanted to achieve in that first year on a piece of paper which I still have 10 years on. My goals were simple;
· Earn £125 a week
· Be able to fill my car with petrol and not worry about the cost
· Go out for dinner or a takeaway once every month
Not big goals when you look back at it but to me this was everything I needed at the time. I sent out flyers, spoke to people in the street, offering my domestic house cleans. For £10 an hour, I couldn’t believe it when I got my first one and within the first 2 years, I was up to 35 houses around my area, even employing a friend to work alongside me.
We decided to branch out and get into the commercial world, with every big decision comes a sick feeling in my tummy… is this the right thing .. can you do it.. will people want you...
Here comes the passion!! I knew full well I could, I would, and I did! We covered the whole of the bay right up to Exmouth, cleaning up to 10 holiday homes a week. I have honestly never worked so hard! We took on some weekend staff, some weekends having 6 members of the boss team all around the bay. We were taking good money and I could see that this little company of mine was something special. I WAS PROUD!
After Covid hit, we decided to re-evaluate the company and how we were going to move forward, as we couldn’t get into peoples homes due to restrictions we had to re-tailor our company and move into Commercial based properties.
We had a call from a large company that was building the Hilton Hotel in Torquay. They had heard of us and wanted to have a meeting about working along side them while they were in the construction phase of the project. We worked alongside them for two years and we continue our partnership to this day, working alongside them at Exeter University and Exeter Hospital to name a few.
Someone recently said, “gosh you’re so lucky to have your business you must have got in just at the right time”. What a crock of shit! To make anything work in life it’s what you’re willing to put into it! What you’re willing to sacrifice and how big your balls are (mine are massive!)
Our company is now looking at different ways to expand, last year we took on our Business Development Manager along with a further 2 managers for different sites, including our first school. We now have a team of 15 and we are working towards our next big project...
Please keep an eye out for this passionate Boss lady and her every growing business
